Is it safe to share a gift card code by message?

Answered by Mukesh

A gift card code is valuable, so it deserves the same care as cash. Sharing it directly with the person you intend to give it to is fine, but you should never give a code to someone who contacts you unexpectedly and pressures you to hand it over.

Scams often work by persuading people to read out or forward a gift card code, because once a code is known it can be spent by whoever has it. If anyone demands payment in gift cards, especially a stranger or someone claiming to be an official, treat it as a warning sign and stop.

When you do share a card with its rightful recipient, a private channel is best, and letting them redeem it promptly reduces the window for anything to go wrong. Keeping codes off public posts and away from unknown contacts protects both you and your gift.
